Principal’s Report
May, 2007
Miss Nelson is Missing: Another wonderful Adams School original play
production is history. Viola Swamp’s iconic glasses, wig, and purple
suit have gone to the Smithsonian for installation in their permanent
American Theater collection.
Ms. Collins is Coming: As you now, Senator Collins will fly-by Adams on
Saturday following MMA commencement. I do not have an exact time. We
will have an exact sense of what she’ll see: slide shows, presentations
by kids, examples of work…and hopefully a lot of spirit and pride.
Plans are under way for cleaning things up “spit spot,” and for
creating a tight, succinct student-led presentation of curriculum and
projects. Slide shows aplenty! My sense is that we don’t want to
politicize this visit too much regarding impending consolidation. There
will be eloquence in our school community turning out to say “we love
this place.” And it wouldn’t hurt if the Senator picked up the phone to
make some suggestions to the governor and legislators.
Mr. Chase is Writing: Attached is Andy Chase’s beautifully crafted
letter to Ted Koffman. Some very nice turns of phrase.
Mr. McWeeny is applying. At my urging, Bill has applied for recognition
as Candidate for “Presidential Awards for Excellence in Math and
Science Teaching.” It would be a big, well-deserved honor. Bill has put
a lot of time into presenting his work. I hope he gets it.
Mrs. Thomas is writing Purchase Orders….like crazy. Getting the last of
this year’s spending done before June board meeting. Joe: we have a
couple grand in computer maintenance that we haven’t spent. Is there a
way/need to use this up?
Ms. Gibson is Resigning: The state just wants Emily to jump through too
many hurdles for certification. Much as she has enjoyed her time at
Adams, she can’t expand her hours or pursue certification. So we’ll
advertise again.
Adams School kids are Signing: We have a banner to display when we
watch the TVSOM depart on Tuesday morning: S.O.S. May Day! Don’t Sink
Adams School. Seems like a prime photo op for the press…why not take
advantage?
Mrs. Goodson is planting: Thanks to Sue and other parents for
volunteering to spruce up for Saturday…cleaning, planting, etc. Much
obliged.
Mr. Nelson will be missing from June 22-July 13: Vive la France!
Respectfully,
Todd R. Nelson
