Principal’s Report
June 4, 2008

Please forgive my absence at tonight’s meeting (if I’m not there). Today was our moving day: two closings, and moving all household goods. By 3:00pm, I will have become a resident of Penobscot.

Weslandia hits the stage….Thursday, 7:00pm. Delano.

Last minute building improvements/repairs on Budget Year 07-08 tab ….Fixed kitchen lighting; bought washer/dryer unit; stumps removed in lower “Blackwood” corner.

Kindergarten step-up Day: Nine kids came for a visit! They are: David "Bean" Marks, Amelia Griffith, Syra Gutow, Sophia Jennings, Sirus Ordway, Lucas Fitzgerald, Kaleb Lunn, Katharyn Stanhope, Jakob Ripton. Siblings: 6. Alumni kids: 4. New members of the Adams Tribe: 9. Huzzah!
What a varied, energetic, enthusiastic group. Sure makes the K-2 classroom a different place. And we are contemplating the full import of that statement in terms of scheduling and subject coverage for next year.

Yearbooks have arrived….early! It’s another wonderful volume of Adams School memories. Will be handed out next week some time so that 8th graders get a few school days to sign their names, etc. Everyone in school gets a personal copy. Many key advertisers (inns and realtors, other businesses with high traffic) will get copies for display. And it cost the school budget zero. Kudos to Lisa and Lance Burton, master minds of the business plan, layout and publishing, advertising, etc. Good sustainable model. Copies have already gone to our friends in France.

Trips and activities. June is the Whoosh zone, as you know. Consider the schedule below and all that’s going on…great opportunities right up to the last minute.

Nominee for long-term sub for K-2 maternity leave: I endorse the superintencdent’s nominee. I  belive she’ll do a great job and the kids and parents will enjoy her.

Summer Work in the Building: The only project I’ve planned, aside from the usual room cleaning and maintenance and the heating system work, is the conversion of the small bathroom in the kitchen pantry into a laundry room. This involves plumbing and some gas line installation. The washer/dryer are purchased on 07-08 budget funds. This enables Toni and Denny to wash kitchen and custodian-related materials.

Teacher-Parent conferences will occur over several afternoons the last week of school, rather than a concentrated conference day during teacher in-service days the following week.
